I had never been to such an amazing national park before, yet I wasn’t the most athletic person so I knew that I couldn’t stick through all the hiking up and down. It actually ended up being a fun and adventurous experience. The ride there was definitely long but worth it. As I woke up from my nap, I saw the beautiful scenery of the tall mountains and beautiful streams. The trails were made nicely for visitors. The waterfalls were breathtaking. Climbing up rocks was one of my favorite parts. Even though I fell a couple of times, I still have a lot of fun. The fact that my family and I spent so much time together all trying to find out which route to take and what views to
watch really brought us closer together. The great thing about nature is that, it’s just you, the views, and the people around you. There’s nothing there to bother you and it’s the best way to relax and enjoy yourself. Yosemite has 5 of the world’s highest waterfalls, and about 300 lakes. The structure of each mountain is incredible; it’s formed in ways that almost take your breath away. Some of them are of a deep dark color with waterfalls forming; some are formed with spots of green peeking (窥探) out. It’s definitely something you wouldn’t want to miss. Yosemite isn’t the only great National Park but based on my experience I highly recommend going out and enjoying nature with family and friends. It’s a great time to bond, laugh, and take in what Mother Nature offers. 24. The author writes the first paragraph mainly to _____. A. introduce the topic of this passage B. offer an example to us C. tell us his future plan for hiking D. describe a national park 25. While climbing up rocks, the author was _____. A. nerve-racking B. injured C. pleased D. worried 26. According to the passage, Yosemite _____. A. is crowded with visitors every day B. is the only great National Park C. is worth travelling to D. is nothing but a common destination 27. The author suggests us _____. A. keeping a good bond with other people B. visiting Yosemite now and then C. trying to protect the environment D. going out to enjoy the beauty of nature C What are the chances of a 100-year-old chocolate candy falling in your treat bag this Halloween? Though Goo Goo Clusters may not be as familiar as Kit Kat or Hershey bars, people of all ages have enjoyed it for an entire century. In 1901, a 19-year-old named Howell Campbell opened a candy store in Nashville, Tennessee. He made all kinds of sweets and hard candies with just two copper kettles and about a dozen employees. Then, in 1912, he made the first candy to combine chocolate with other ingredients such as caramel, marshmallow, nougat, and peanuts. Originally, these clusters were hand-wrapped and sold under the counter at a few local stores with a sign reading,“A nourishing (滋养的) lunch for a nickel.” Now, they are known as Goo Goo Clusters. What else makes a Goo Goo so special?“In addition to it being the very first-ever combination confection created, its shape also makes it quite unique,’’ says Beth Sachan, Goo Goo Clusters’ senior marketing manager.“The Goo Goo Cluster is a big, imperfectly round mound (垛) of deliciousness!” The 100th anniversary of the Goo Goo Cluster is being celebrated throughout the month of October, the biggest candy-selling month of the year. About 40 restaurants in the Nashville area have created unique desserts inspired by Goo Goo Clusters to serve to their customers. Additionally, a Goo Goo-sponsored race called the “Jog’n Hog” was held in Nashville on October 13. Adults and children ran three miles to the finish line after eating at least one of six Goo Goo Clusters from a bag they were given at the halfway point. A golden Goo Goo was hidden in one of the bags. The winner received a $100 gift certificate to the candy’s website, googoo. com. 28. We can learn from the first paragraph that Goo Goo Clusters _____. A. have been popular with the customers B. will be sold out by this Halloween C. look like Kit Kat and Hershey bars D. are much better than other candies 29. The underlined word “confection” probably means _____. A. ingredient B. candy C. food D. deliciousness 30. The customers would like to enjoy Goo Goo Clusters probably because of _____.
A. its weight and combination B. its package and design C. its fair price and low cost D. its shape and deliciousness 31. The 100th anniversary of the Goo Goo Cluster is being celebrated by _____. A. offering specially designed desserts B. giving away many gift certificates C. opening a lot of restaurants D. holding a competition of eating candies D Love to sink into your chairs and relax when you get to school? Then you will not be happy to hear that schools all over the world are seriously considering exchanging traditional desks for ones with no seats at all — Yes, that means you will be encouraged to stand through those already too long math and science lessons! Why would anyone even think of putting kids to such cruelty? Experts say it improves their health and helps fight obesity. While that may seem a little far-fetched (牵强的) the officials at the few schools around the world seem to agree. Among them are educators from the College Station Independent School District in Texas, who recently completed a week-long experiment involving 480 students across three elementary schools. The 374 kids that agreed to participate in the study were provided a device that helped record step count and calorie consumption over the entire period. All 25 teachers involved in the study reported that students appeared to be more alert and concentrate better, when allowed to stand. The one thing that did surprise the researchers was that younger kids were more willing to stay standing than kids in higher grades. They believe this may have something to do with the fact that after years of being asked to “sit still”, older kids have a harder time adjusting to this unexpected freedom. American schools are not the only ones reporting success with stand-up desks. Four Catholic schools in Perth, Australia, which have been testing them since October 2013, have seen similar results. In May 2014, Grove House Primary School in Bradford, West Yorkshire, became Europe’s first test one, with a seven-week trial that involved the use of desks made by Ergotron in their fifth-grade classrooms. While official results are not out yet, early reactions from both teachers and students, have been extremely encouraging. The findings of these studies and others done previously, all seem to mean that allowing kids to move around in classrooms is a win-win for students and teachers — it helps kids get healthier and provides educators with a more engaged audience. 32. According to the first paragraph, what may make the students at school unhappy is that _____. A. they have to exchange desks with each other B. they have to exchange traditional desks for ones with no seats C. there are no seats for them to sit in class D. the officials show no sympathy to them at all 33. According to the teachers, older students may not like stand-up desks because _____. A. they are cleverer than younger students B. they are easily tired of standing long C. they have formed the habit of sitting D. they do badly in class while standing 34. What is most likely to be the result of the seven-week trial? A. The standing desks can’t be used at all. B. It is good for students to use stand-up desks. C. More tests should be done in other schools. D. The students are different in personality. 35. Why do the teachers like the standing desks? A. Because the educators can draw the students’ attention. B. Because the teachers can keep the students healthy.
C. Because the students can have a walk in the classroom. D. Because the standing desks can keep the students concentrated. 第二节（共 5 小题； 每小题 3 分， 满分 15 分） 根据短文内容，从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 It is necessary to be reasonable and flexible enough to avoid conflicts as much as possible and live in peace with others. 36 If you have done all your best to avoid conflicts and you are still arguing, then read these effective tips on how to avoid conflicts. Don’t get in the center of the conflict. Sometimes people can get in the center of conflicts due to their enthusiasm for offering help. Don’t worry if you are not a natural-born peacekeeper; you can gain this skill during life. Walk off. When the conflict is gathering pace and you can’t manage to control yourself, you should choose to handle the situation in another way. By all means, try to keep yourself away from stress. 40 You should get away from the situation for a while. A. Conflicts are unavoidable, so try to accept them. B. The greatest victory is a battle not fought. C. It is helpful to put some distance between yourself and the opponent. D. Let other people solve their problems without your presence. E. Weak people usually desire others to offer help and support. F. Arguing can either break your friendship or affect your relationship to some degree. G. A meal consisting of foods from at least two of the five food groups is the 63 (healthy), but the truth is 64 a bite of nearly any food in the morning is better than none, especially when it comes to kids. Hunger makes it harder to keep your mind 67 (focus) on learning, no matter what your age. In fact, studies show breakfast skippers are often more bad-tempered and have 68 (short) attention. Whether you are getting young rabbits or old ones, you’ll experience all of the joys of raising them. Raising rabbits is much like raising other animals. Here’re some things to help you raise and care for your rabbits so that they can live a happy life. When you bring rabbits home, they will be scared, because rabbits are nervous by nature. Allow them a few weeks to get used to their surroundings. Always make sure your rabbits have a cage big enough to live in. They need to have enough room to move around, especially if they stay indoors and you will cage them while you are gone. This is the safest option for your rabbits as well. When feeding always make sure to keep their diet consistent. Pet rabbits don’t like it when their food is changed often. Aside from food, water is the most important for a rabbit. Always make sure they have fresh cold water! Provide a treat for them every now and then like carrots. There are certain types of treats at pet stores that are good, and your rabbits may like them. Rabbit care also means providing your rabbits with toys. Cat toys work great, especially balls with bells in the center. Larger rabbits will even play with things such as pop cans and pop bottles. Raising rabbits is the same as owning a dog or cat. We hope you have enjoyed learning how to raise and care for rabbits. It requires a lot of efforts, but it will also bring you many years of joy and happiness!

One possible version: Dear Sir or Madam, I’m Li Hua from Class Three, Grade Three. I am glad to learn that 14 students from the UK will come to our school on a cultural exchange program. My family would like to apply to be a host family for a British student. There are three members in my family, my parents and me. All of us do very well in communicating in English, since my father and mother both work as teachers in universities. Currently, we have a spare bedroom available with an attached bathroom and free Internet access. Besides, my house is only five-minute walking distance away. It will be very convenient for him to get to and from school every day. I believe my guest will enjoy his stay here. Thank you for considering my application and I am looking forward to your early reply. Yours sincerely, Li Hua
